You Wont Find Inspiration in a Basement

You Wont Find Inspiration in a Basement

Take it from someone who currently calls a basement apartment her home, you will not find inspiration in a basement. Although I love the cozy little home I have created, it is hard to draw inspiration from somewhere you live day in and day out. […]

If Not Now, When?

If Not Now, When?

Do you ever catch yourself saying, when work slows down I’ll get back into my routine? Or, on the first of next month I will start my diet again? Or, I’ll just enjoy the summer and once autumn hits, I will be strict with myself. […]

Juicing 101

Juicing 101

When we think of juicing, our brains may automatically think of a juice cleanse or worse, a juice fast! If you’re a foodie like me then the thought of drinking nothing but juice for 3 days or a week may turn you off the thought of juicing at all.

But hear me out for a moment. Adding even 1 fresh juice to your day can have immense benefits. And by adding a fresh juice, I mean you’ve juiced the veggies and fruits yourself 😉 Some of the benefits of juicing include nutrients entering your bloodstream almost instantaneously as there is no fibre to slow it down, clearer skin, and better digestion.

What you need to juice:

  • a juicer (mine is an Omega Slow Masticating juicer, but you can find an option that best suits your needs)
  • fresh, organic vegetables and fruits of your choice

That’s all! It really is so simple, yet the benefits are so profound. Some of my favourite things to juice are kale, parsley, beets, spinach, cabbage, apples, pears, and lemons. Oh and carrots. And ginger!! The possibilities really are endless and there is a definitely a combo that will work for you.

My Green Juice

In this concoction I have kale, parsley, carrots, lemon, apples, and pears.

The reason I recommend using organic vegetables and fruits is because you’re getting concentrated nutrients once you juice them, and you will want to avoid also getting concentrated pesticides and herbicides from produce that isn’t organic.

The hype around juicing is huge, and for good reason. It is a health habit that will benefit you for years to come. Like any new thing you try though, don’t give up if it doesn’t work out the first time. I’m pretty sure the first time I tried juicing I threw a banana and some strawberries in hoping for a smoothie. It takes time and mistakes will be made, and that is okay!

No Inhibitions: What happened to the love of life we had when we were younger?

No Inhibitions: What happened to the love of life we had when we were younger?

A while ago, my mom told me a story of how one day, when I was about 5 or 6, she and my dad took me to the mall. When we got there, they realized there was a fashion show going on so they took me […]

Today I Choose...

Today I Choose… Gratitude

Today I Choose… Gratitude

Today I am practicing gratitude, something I overlook more often than I would like to admit.

I am grateful for all of the healthy food I have access to. I am grateful for friends who make me laugh until I make funny noises. I am grateful for my dog who I find more solace in than people sometimes. I am grateful for my family who through ups and downs have taught me how to be strong. I am grateful for the lake and it’s calming sounds. I am grateful for trees and the endless oxygen they provide.

Without these things in my life I couldn’t live they way I am and for that I am truly grateful.

The benefits of practicing gratitude are plenty. They range from an overall more positive attitude, to getting better sleep at night. One way that I like to practice gratitude is by keeping a Gratitude Journal and writing down at least 3 different things a day that I am grateful for. Find a moment in your day that you can keep consistent and write down that which you are grateful for.

Why keep it to yourself?

If you’re feeling extra gracious some days, try writing a letter or sending a text or best yet, telling someone face to face how grateful you are to have them in your life!

Other ways to practice Gratitude:

  • Practice 1 random act of kindness each day
  • Watch videos that inspire you such as a TedTalk or other YouTube video
  • Volunteer at a local charity
  • Watch your words: don’t speak negatively about anyone, including yourself!
  • Meditate!
  • Live mindfully (in the moment)
  • Be thankful for challenges put in your path as they are meant as lessons to guide you

Once you get in the habit of practicing daily gratitude, it is hard to stop. You start seeing things align differently in your life and you start creating a field of energy that welcomes positivity and kindness.
