Graduate high school: check

Get a full time job: sigh…check

According to my parents and most adults I speak to, this is what “starting my life” looks like. This is what will determine my success in life, I’m “building my future”.

What happens when at the end of the day I come home and still have this empty feeling? This feeling of being unfulfilled. This feeling of knowing that there is more to life than clocking into work 9-5 everyday. What if I want to explore? What if I’m not ready to settle in one spot and build whatever the heck I’m supposed to be building? What if I want some time to discover, and learn, and grow, and experience?

Ladies and gentlemen, to that I say EFF IT!

There is always time to explore, there is always time to learn, and there is always time to experience whatever you want to experience. Until there isn’t time. And do you really want to get to that point in your life wondering what if?

Yes I get that you have to work for a living, but why does that have to be figured out so young in life. I read all these quotes about following your passion and finding what you love to do. But like, fresh out of school all I know how to do is write essays and fill in black dots on the Scantron card for exams. Let me tell you something, neither of those things are my passions in life.

Be free and wander. Cultivate a life you are proud of. Read, sing, write, hike, create, be vulnerable. Live off of nothing. Gain perspective. Be kind. Give more than you believed you ever could. Change your life. Change someone else’s life.

Really this life is anything you want it to be.

What is one goal that you can set for yourself this summer that pushes you out of your comfort zone and gives you a chance to chase adventure?

For me, I picked up an Ontario Parks book at my local library and my goal is to visit as many provincial parks as I can. 2 down, over 300 more to go!!!

Also for the record, this goes for anyone at any age. It is never too late to reconnect with yourself and with the world around you. Maybe this is just the push you need to remember that.
