When we think of juicing, our brains may automatically think of a juice cleanse or worse, a juice fast! If you’re a foodie like me then the thought of drinking nothing but juice for 3 days or a week may turn you off the thought […]
A while ago, my mom told me a story of how one day, when I was about 5 or 6, she and my dad took me to the mall. When we got there, they realized there was a fashion show going on so they took me to watch for a little while. Getting caught up in the show, my mom lost track of where I had went. Not long after, she spotted me up at the front of the stage, jamming out to whatever music they were playing. I danced and I strutted and I laughed and then I danced some more. My dad taps my mom on the shoulder and asks “should we go get her?”. My mom tells him, “no, let her be. I want her to remember this feeling of letting loose and not letting anything stop her from being herself. I want her to remember what it feels like to have no inhibitions”.
Oh what I would give to have that feeling back!
When she shared that story with me, my heart sunk to my stomach. What happened to that feeling? Who did I let interfere with this feeling of just living?
When you think about it, it’s silly to be so hard on yourself. I understand having drive and wanting to see yourself succeed, but at what point do you compromise your happiness and pure joy for living, for acceptance from others.
Here’s what I know:
1. You have ONE life. What a waste it would be to spend it trying to impress those around you.
2. You are capable of anything. I know for myself, launching this blog was one of the scariest things for me. I had fear that people won’t like it, feeling vulnerable and open, sharing my stories and thoughts and knowledge, not knowing if it would be a success. But at the end of the day, it is something that comes from my heart, and that is enough for me to believe that I am capable of finding success.
3. People are more concerned with their own lives than they are yours, and if people have to comment negatively on your life, then understand that that is an insecurity on their end. Listen, not everyone is going to like you. There are 7 billion people on this earth, all with their own opinions. So what if a select few live in a world devoid of love? Be you, be real, be genuine.
4. Letting go of expectation is the most freeing feeling in the world. Don’t get me wrong, this is not a concept that I have fully grasped myself. I have random tidbits in my life where I can let go for even half a second. In those moments, I ask myself why I can’t do this more often. You are the only one whose job in life is to make sure you are okay. No one else has that job so you cannot expect it from anyone else. It is easy to feel angry when others don’t work in your best interest, but they already have their own things to deal with, themselves! You do you. You can’t please everyone so why not focus on pleasing yourself?
You are confined only by your own limits. Break down the walls you have spent years building up. Know that it won’t be easy, but understand that it will be so worth it.
It is easy to get caught up in the ebbs and flows of life, feeling really high and giddy when something goes well, and alternately, really low and depressed when something does not. For some reason, as a society, we tend to get stuck on […]
